A few months ago we explored the purpose of Google and took a detailed look at the series of updates that have occurred since the search engine's inception in 1998, many of which have had a direct impact on search engine optimization or SEO strategies . But did you know that SEO goes back even further than Google? Join us as we launch our content on When SEO came out and SEO evolution and take a look at the evolution of SEO from 1994 to today . Search Engine History It's hard to talk about search engine optimization without thinking of Google. But SEO actually started before the birth of Google, because Google wasn't the first search engine. In 1991, Tim Berners-Lee launched the world's first website. Numerous other websites have emerged over the years.
As the internet became more crowded, there was a need for a simple Business & Consumer Email List way for internet users to find the information they were looking for. Thus, the search engine was born as a way to catalog information and sort results based on keywords found in content and other forms of optimization. Archie The first search engine was known as Archie. It was very simple and had limited space. So it only provided a list of available sites, but did not display the content of those sites. Following Archie, there were a number of other basic search engines that did not help internet users much. By 1994, things started to get a little easier in terms of finding what you wanted on the internet. Infoseek, ALIWEB and Yahoo Infoseek was one of the earliest search engines to allow website owners to submit their pages for inclusion in listings. Then came ALIWEB, which allowed users to submit web pages for inclusion.
However, website owners did not know how to submit their own sites. Then came a revolution: Yahoo! This was more similar to what we expect from search engines today, but website owners were finding that their sites were taking a long time to get listed. WebCrawler, LookSmart, Excite and AltaVista WebCrawler was released the same year but its huge popularity meant it could not be used during the day. Lycos followed soon after and was one of the first search engines to begin using more advanced search parameters. It has made searching easier for internet users. LookSmart and Excite were not far behind in 1995, and that same year AltaVista brought a breath of fresh air with its natural language queries, advanced search techniques, search tips and other user-friendly features, as well as the ability for website owners to add or delete their own sites within 24 hours.
